I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for this delightful thread. I have enjoyed it immensely, and have learned a LOT!

I learned week before last that my cancer is back (brain tumor, oddly enough described as a "hen egg"), so I have spent the last 10 days rehoming everything, and am checking into Hospice care this afternoon. I have had "Operation Rescue Me" in place for a long time, just in case, so everything had places to go before hand. It was pretty easy. My layer flock (and the neighbor's flock of 24 as well) went to a family with 8 children to feed, so I feel real good about that. My Doms went to Texarcana, so they will be cared for and cherished there as well...the end of a looooong era.

Have resigned my posts at the library and all the volunteer places, and my teaching positions at "Empowered!" and said my goodbye's there. But I wanted to say again, that this thread, and participating herein, has brought me so much joy and amusement. Thank you so much!

I am going to try to get a laptop to keep up with you guys as long as I can, but just in case I can't, wanted to post this. Thank you all again.
Please know that all of our prayers go with you.

forgive me if this has been addressed before. In another thread the question of supplimenting crushed acorns came up. I know turkeys eat them and don't die. As usual the internet is full of yes and no answers. So I'm turning to the experts

. Have any of you purposely fed your flock acorns? And if so how did you go about it? Thanks!

Thank you for thinking of us in this difficult time. I find that so refreshing and classy. I had tears rolling down my face as I read this, but I have regrouped somewhat. I wish you peace and freedom from pain. I pray for you and your family. I guess this is the essence of an OT. Matter of fact, yet classy in style. I am glad to have met you, if only via this newfangled thing called the net.
God bless you and yours.

Shawn

God bless you, and I will be praying for you.

Therapydoglady, I have been reading this thread from the beginning, and I have really enjoyed your thoughtful input. Please know that we are all praying for you and hope that you will continue to be a part of this forum. We enjoy your stories and you seem like a kind person. So sorry that you are going through this.

Hi! My name is Brie, and I am Therapydoglady's daughter- in- law. I have printed off everybody's well wishes and I will be sure to give them to her in the morning.

She is the mose awesome lady I have ever met, and I am sure she would tell you thank you for thoughts and prayers, but that also she is the one that is blessed. These past twelve years according to her were stolen years. She should have been dead a long time ago. But she has lived ever second of ever day of those twelve years to the fullest. Lots of that time in service to others. She got to meet and love 4 grandkids. She has taught every one of them how to read. And more important, how to tell you what they just read! What a gif!. It upset her so badly when she had 5th grade kids that could read the words, but not be able to tell you about what that page said.

She told our kids today that heaven awaits her coming, and for them to not be sad. She gave them permission to miss her when she was gone, but not permission to be sad for more than a day or two. She has taken care of everything. There is nothing left for us to do. She is ready.

Thank you all for being such a bright spot in her life for the past month or so. She truly enjoyed you all. Brie

She sounds like she has a wonderful family! It really impresses me to hear your kind words about her-most people cannot stand their mother-in-law, it seems. Take care.....and may God bless you too.

Please send my thanks and let her know I'm praying for her too. The way you describe is the way I want to be when my time comes...I want to talk straight with my loved ones and let them talk with me about my passing freely. Seems so many people put on the "I'm going to beat this" thing and they rob their family of straight, honest communication at the end and things that should have been said never get said.

God be with you all throughout these last days...may you all enjoy each other's company.

One of my 29 year old daughter's last thoughts that she wrote on her blog before she died in an accident was:

"A few close friends and family are worth more than any other distraction." (Leah Cunningham Kubik, 1979 - 2009)

She was right.

As a teenager, we had a post oak tree in our coop. Never seen any chickens eating any acorns.
