Plexiglas isn't cheap either!! At least around here a 4x8 sheet is over $120.
And yes, horse manure would probably be a lot less smelly than fermenting cow manure.
Are you hoping that if the water freezes overnight the greenhouse will thaw it? I'm wondering if there would be any value in being able to cover it at night to keep some heat in. I assume the birds want a morning drink when they get off the roost.

I never keep water in a coop. Add's moisture. Moisture leads to frostbite on combs. Plus itjust makes a mess. I let me birds out early. Then the feed and drink. Never either in the coop

Sorry my last post is so wonkers, for some reason I'm having trouble with the site. I can't quote other posts, and after submitting mine, it looked NOTHING like when I wrote it, and I can't figure out how to edit it!! Julie

There should be a little pencil icon next to the red flag at the bottom of you post (you only see it on YOUR posts). That is the edit icon. If it isn't there than I have no idea. A web site screw up? It happens, it is only code (well only a LOT of code).

I cannot beging to express my heartfelt thanks to all of you who felt the need to support us at this tough time, I never post of losses but this isn't a loss but a defining moment in my chicken program. But the word got out in the chicken community before I could catch my breath. My first concern was of course for my bride of 25 yrs, she's such winner and always the first to call or text me when I am running late taking care of my business affairs. She say's to not worry the chickens are done so I don't drive in past the house down to the pasture gates and to the coops regardless of the time of night, and to just come in to a hot dinner and a cool kiss on the cheek, yeah I am keepin her around for a bit. She is doing better and is one tough bird for sure.

I did spend a little longer out in the coop today just sitting on a milk crate in the big breeder coop sippin coffee thinking what the Hay and shaking my head, oh well.................. I did want to thank all of you it means allot seriously. So I am not sure if I have the gut's to make a phone call or two to a few breeder friends and see if they might consider a pay it forward kinda gesture thing with some of my old lines, to get me back going, not for free of course but just the notion to maybe let a guy get a few birds to rebuild with.

Anyway thanks allot, youz guyz are the reason an old fart hangs around and throws a post out every now and then.

She sounds like a keeper for sure, Al! Once again, I'm so thankful that she was not injured in the attack. As far as making those phone calls - I hope you do. I'll bet anyone that you have sold birds to and helped get started on their own lines would be more than happy to help you out. Take care of yourself and your dear wife.

I don't know about catching it from chickens, but I do know from experience catching it from a kitten that the same medicine for athlete's foot works on ringworm. I used Lotrimin. It works great.

Al,

I wanted to add my sympathies to those of everyone else as well as my admiration for your wife. I believe that any true chicken person would be more than willing to help you start your flock back.

Clearly an over achiever, not only well above expectations on the tests, she laid almost 1 1/2 dozen eggs as well!!!!
LOl. Hilarious. Little one probably broke a rib today on a friends too big bike and she is having trouble sleeping. She is so sad and she says only the chickens lay the eggs. aww poor little tiger.

Thanks for the laugh!

Did any of your chickens survive?

Here I am a old women with ring worm..did I catch it from the chickens? And anyone know what to do to clear it up? It's on the underside of my knee.

Try some NuStock...known for being a good ringworm treatment. That's what y'all get for using your roosters as a loofah.....
