Has anyone ever ordered from Chickens for Backyard? We are wanting to get some Australorps but since this is our fist go we don't want to get 15-25 until we start figuring out what we are doing. They are one of the few places that will allow us to order a small amount. We want to get several pullets and afraid that getting them from the local feed stores will give us mostly males.

I haven't ordered from them, but don't their minimums change in April-November?

I want to hear if they're any good, as they seem the best choice for me and my BF.

From what I can find most places do change the min order amount in April. Sadly I am finding that several will not have anymore Australorps until May.

If you check around the feed stores you might be able to have them order the birds you want. My local feed store special orders birds for customers and they have no minimum.

I bought 10 "sexed" chicks there last year of several different breeds. one did turn out to be a rooster.

You may also check Craig's list, but I would be wary since many times those people do not really know how to tell sexes either, and you could end up with lots of Roos that way as well.

One last idea, would be to find another person or two who want chickens that you could Split an order with.

So far chickensforbckyards suits my needs best. Assortments, small amounts, waterfowl and chickens can be shipped together, a plastic coop I can snap together, and they sell easter eggers..I can't really find anything better that sells all that.

From what I have read, the sex-linked chicks sound pretty good for what we are looking for as far as eggs and friendliness. Does e-fowl have a minimum? We kinda only want 5-6 more pullets. I live in FL. I bought from a local guy with lots of chickens but we ended up with two roos out of 5 chicks. I just want hens at this point. Any suggestions?
