Chickens for Easter???

No....not so much...mall pet stores make me cringe! I think there should be a law against mall pet stores! Usually (not saying all) it is all about the money and nothing to do with the animals safety and well being!

I was just looking at these ads on Craigslist last night - it creeped me out and made me sad. I bought my girls 3 weeks ago & I do have some adorable Easter pictures. HOWEVER, my son only gets to handle them with supervision, they are in a brooder with a heat lamp, their water and food is changed daily and as soon as they're sufficiently feathered out they will go into the chicken coop I ordered this week.

But Easter varies by a month -- why not tax day?

It's as fine a reason as any but the truth is that we do associate baby animals with Easter. I don't think anyone has a problem with people timing their acquisition with Easter IF they are getting their chicks because they want to have chickens. If they are getting chicks because they want chicks and that's as far as they've thought, well, that's a problem.

There is a local photo studio here that gets chicks, ducklings, and a lamb every year to use as props. I don't know what happens to the animals afterward but since it's an annual event, I'm hoping they have some sort of arrangement for the animals after the holiday.

I was being facetious about loving mall pet stores by the way.

I do hope that photo studio does have a loving home for their "used" babies. I'm sure they are cute pictures, but it's sad to think their futures are a second thought. Haha! Tax day! What a brilliant way to spend a tax return!!

And i think baby animals and Easter go together because of spring. This Easter and our first flock will always be a special memory. My daughter got to pick her chick and so far she's been very loving. She's 3 and she told her chick "I love you. I'm your Mommy! Anything you need!!" So far, her chick is the most tame. I thought she would be antsy and nervous from the handling, but she is very friendly!

As long as animals are purchased responsibly, then I think Easter presents are as good a time to adopt as any. Responsibly being the key word.

Well I bought my girls for my kiddos for Easter. Dh and I have both wanted chickens for a few years though, he helped take care of chickens when he was in middle school and high school. He knows exactly what we are getting into. I also read a few books, found byc and researched a lot before decided and even went and visited with Beth G.
We also gave the boys a dog for their birthdays one year. Again we wanted her and new the respondsibility involved.
My mother on the other hand gave my sisters rabbits one year for Easter spurr of the moment and didn't realize they grew so big. Those 2 suffered cuz my sisters didn't take care of them, my mom did, but sisters would let them loose outside and inside and not catch them.

If you get an animal take care of it DUH!!!!
