I bought and am reading a book, I read that first you do not give your chickens citrus to eat...says its bad for them, doesnt say why...know you dont do onions or peppers unless you want your eggs to taste like that.

I did read that you give them garlic in there food, that it helps keep them healthy and is good for there immune system. Any one heard of this before? I know when I had horses we gave them garlic salt in there food to keep mosquitos away from them, and also for health....and we would also after a bath...take garlic salt we had boiled in water, let it cool and rub it on our horses...

Garlic is a natrual dewormer and booster for the immune system. There is alot of herbal studies on it for both of these effects. If you do you it try the garlic powder not garlic salt. You just sprinkle it on feed. I used it for my dogs for years to keep worms at bay and fleas.

Citrus will cause a hen to stop laying. there are some other fruits also but it is subjective to the hen herself. SandHill Preservation hatchery says to stay away from all fruit for this very reason.
