Some of my chickens are getting a little too adventurous. I love that they like to climb and perch on top of the coop during the day, but I'm afraid they are going to get hurt. Two recent events:
1. Did not do a chicken count when I locked them up for the night. Had water and food in their inner run area for 2 days. Roommate texts me to say that a chicken was in the next door park. It must have jumped climbed the fencing, onto the coop, onto the chainlink fence and then into the park. Luckily it survived on it's own and I was to bring find it hiding in the park 2 days later, thirsty, hungry, wet and cold.
2. I have a generally friendly dog. She was outside for for longer periods of time and I couldn't figure out what was going on... Well this morning I wake up and my chicken is just running around the grass in the backyard. Luckily my dog left the chicken alone.
What do I do? Trim the wings way up? Spikes on the fences? Taller fences? I have made it a point to do a better job with nightly counts to make sure everyone gets to bed.
