Chickens will kill eat eat mice, but rats are to big and will kill and eat chickens, mostly small or young ones. They like eggs too. They come out at night and it's rare to see them. But if you have mice, you don't have rats, as rats eat mice. Holes are a good indicater of rats. They burrow and have a network of tunnels.
