Help! I'm a first time chicken keeper. I have 3 hens that are just about 19-21 weeks old. Two nights ago I came out back at about 3am to find them out of the coop and down in their run, eating and drinking! They've never left the coop through the night before that I know of and they have food and water in both places. Then today, they went up in the coop a couple times during the day, which they never do! One of them laid their first egg (a fart egg I think) 3 days ago. Don't know if that matters, but thought I should throw that out there. What's going on?! Thanks for any help!

it may only happen once because my chickens always come to me when i go to see them so if they hear me coming they go down to see if i have treats

I know what you mean. As soon as they hear the back door they start raising a fuss. But they were already down in the run, eating, dinking and calm. Like they'd been there for a bit.

Are there lights in your yard near the coop/run?
You don't lock up your coop at night?
There is a motion sensor light out there. Their run is completely secure but I can lock them in if I need to. I've been leaving it open so they can come down in the morning if I don't get out there early enough.
