chickens in AK?

I live in Maine and we have always been interested in AK, specifically Anchorage. Does anyone live there and own chickens? Willing to share your experiences? Thanks!

Go to the thread for selecting your state, and go to Alaska. I know there are some folks on here from there that have flocks. I hope this helps

I live south of Anchorage and I've got chickens!! What would you like to know?

Yep Yep lots of people in the Valley have them. I live 300 plus miles from there and have much much colder temps than they do and mine do just fine

I live about 289 miles from Anchorage, and I have Colder weather than Anchorage does....My chickens do well.

Great! I was wondering about a couple of things...like bear-proofing a coop and also what types of regulations there are in and around the city limits of Anchorage as far as having hens and roosters. I will check out the state by state thread as well...
