Chickens in Florida?

Hi Darlene. You'll love it here (especially where you are from, weather wise, in the winter... big difference, you don't have to prepare a coop here even if it drops into the low 30s) Be prepared for. ..heat (make sure they have plenty of fresh water and lots of shade spots), if cooping, good ventilation.
Rain ...Have a place where they can get out of the mud and water but can also stay dry. Hurricanes aren't a super big deal. We got the eye of Ian at 2am (and forgot to put ones in the pens that are a little more exposed up (didn't hit me until the eye was here) , and the winds were whipping really good (scary sound good), sideways rain for at least an hour, in the morning everyone was A-Ok, dry and up to their usual digging and clucking and crowing.
Be prepared for mosquitos (so things like fowl pox), worms, mites, lice, stick tight fleas. The usual, as we have a lot (A LOT) of migratory birds that bring things with them.
And depending on if you guys are buying rural or urban depends on a secure pen @ night to keep out unwanted varmits (and hawks and eagles during the day if you free range). And if you're in the city areas that is a whole nother ball game with rules for keeping (but plenty in the city do (just no roos).

Good luck with your move, prayers for safety. If you end up anywhere near central FL (or any other FL town for that matter) there are plenty of us Floridians on here that can hook you up with birds.
