Chickens in Missouri

I live in Missouri wich is a state that can have warm winters or hot winters and usually HOT summers so I need a breed that does good in both temperatures, does anyone have any suggestions? Rn I have silkies, bared rocks and 1 road island red

I love Australorps as hot weather birds. I haven't had any trouble with mine coping with the steamy summers here in North Carolina.

Any Mediterranean breed should also do well in heat.

What are you looking for in personality, egg laying ability, free-range or in a run, size etc.

I would like one that is like a silkies personality (I have a 4 year old sister) and would like a few eggs a week from it and they mostly like in the coop and run but every now and then I’ll let them out and I don’t really want a small one but honestly don’t care

Jersey Giants & Orpingtons are some of the friendliest breeds that have straight combs to help with heat. Not sure how hot they can deal with, hopefully someone will chime in!

I'm in southern Missouri. First time chicken keeper, I have black copper Marans and Easter egger/ameracaunas. We went through 106F this summer and -7F with no losses. Not even frostbite.

Hi, we have a MO thread if you’d like to join us there…
I have had many breeds and they all seem to do just fine…I can’t think of any I wouldn’t recommend.
