chickens in my garden

Hi, I'm Deb
I think I'm ready to try this! My biggest concern is my garden. I have raised beds with no fencing. Will the chickens eat my veggies? I stake my tomato and pepper plants so nothing sits on the ground.

Yup, chickens love gardens (and veggies). You'll need to keep those separated from one another if you want a taste of anything in your garden.

Hey, Deb! Welcome to BYC. I'm in the process of building my raised bed garden also. But I did the opposite of you: started my chickens first!

I'm putting posts in the ground and am stretching a wire fence around the beds. But not for the chickens; for other creatures around here.

The other option you have - besides a fence - is to do a chicken tractor or fixed run rather than free-ranging your chickens. I have a tractor myself.

I tried chickens in my garden, because so many books said it would keep bugs, weeds, etc. down. Obviously, the authors of those books NEVER had chickens. They will eat everything!

I replanted twice, before I figured it out!

Good luck! But do fence in, and cover the top - chickens can fly, ya know!
