Chickens in my town!

Good evening! I want to say first of all I am excited to learn all I can. I have always wanted to raise chickens! But, life never deals you the hand you always want. As my child grew up and town life was a must I had to do what I could with city ordinance. My backyard is a full garden, I'm also a beekeeper and move hive around when needed. I'm also a union millwright. So, I'm good with my hands. All my hives are build by me. So! here is what I'm dealing with. I live in Lafayette, Indiana. City ordnance says we can't have any livestock. Chickens are part of that. But! drive a few miles across one river to West Lafayette and you can have chickens in town! I would like to know what I can do to maybe change this law. Thank you all for all the help.

Welcome aboard! I don't know if this helps but I consider my chickens as pets. If it is okay to have a pet parrot why not a chicken or two? I am curious of that angle could help change the rules.
