Chickens in the rain/sleet, no heat in coop.

In another thread on a different forum I posted about the lights on a timer that we have in the coop. It's actually a brooder light, with 4 small bulbs (appliance bulbs, and I can turn them to give as much or as little light as I want). I didn't mention that there is also a red heat bulb on that fixture, but it's not turned on. I don't plan to use it unless we have some really awful temps, and then probably only at night. Sometimes here it can get into the single digits, and then I may turn that bulb on. If it's cold enough to need it even in the day time I can reduce the light from the regular bulbs.
Gritsar is right, our birds are born to be able to withstand a lot of things. It's when we start thinking that they might only be comfy in circumstances that WE would like that they start having problems. Let them be chickens, I always say. LOL.
