I'm concerned about mychickens being outdoors in the rain. We free range, they are about 3-4 months old now. When it rains they usually go under an evergreen or our japanese maple (the love it, nice cozy shade). Every time it rains, I feel like i need to get them back in the coop, they are not happy to go back in and I usually have to tempt them with bread to get them back in. Anyone have any comments about leaving your chickens out in the rain?

No worries - warm summer rain? Absolutely no worries. Mine walked around getting soaked, when they had enough they found shelter - course the all white one looked horrible, but the rest looked fine!

Rain is when the best bugs come out. If they want to be out in it, that's their choice and I let em be.

Heavy rain, thunder, lightning, summer or winter not a problem. But they run in terror at the sight of my green dollar store squirt gun.

we just lost some 9 week old chicks this morning. The covered run had 2 very small puddles in it and the chicks were sitting in the puddles. They were not even in the rain.......I guess they got chilled and just sat there. The others were in under the heat lamp.
