Hi, All! Looking to move to West Bend, WI area. We have hens and they WILL come along! Anyone know the legality in West Bend? I found a 15-year old ordinance that allows you to have 10 chickens if you have 5 acres... Is there an updated situation? It appears from forums that people have hens there...

Thanks!

Sarah, have you asked at village or town Hall? You can also post on your state thread - at "where am I, where are you," in the social forum. You may even find members from your area- who would have the best information. Good luck to you.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I would certainly check out your town hall and your state thread as drumstick diva suggested. There is also the chicken laws section of the forum that you could stop by. Here is the link https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/37/local-chicken-laws-amp-ordinances-and-how-to-change-them

Wishing you the very best of luck with your move and I hope you are able to take your hens with you. What breed of hens do you have?
Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Hi! I just moved to Trenton recently (east of WB, WB mailing address...) and our ordinances are posted online. My only confusion is in which zoning my house is in... and getting to Trenton's town hall when they are open to view the zoning map is quite the task.

I guess it depends on which municipality your house is in, how much land you have, and what your zoning is. If you are looking to purchase, really research the municipality (Trenton, Newburg, town or city of West Bend, etc) to find out your regulations.

City of West Bend Info- no poultry allowed: https://imageserv11.team-logic.com/mediaLibrary/2023/09_chapter_municipal_code_1.pdf
Town of West Bend Info- poultry limits determined by land size: http://townofwestbend.com/uploads/ckfiles/files/2010 Zoning Ordinance.pdf

Let me know if you need more help.
