chickens in winter

I just wanted to know if you can tell how comfortable your chickens are in their coop at night.This is my first winter with my girls and I want to make sure they are going to be okay. I decided not to add a light and I have been giving them scratch in the morning and at night so they can warm up.
Any responses would be appreciated

during the coldest part of winter I keep a heat lamp on inside the coop to take the edge off the cold. I just don't feel right leaving them in below zero temps with out something.
I've used milk house heaters in the past, but found it difficult regulate the temperature.

Mine have been fine in and out of the coop without heat for far. For reference it's only gotten down to the low 20s here. I'm in Utah, where in Idaho are you?

It was in the low 20s yesterday and has been in the 30s during the day. They have been walking around in the backyard and seem ok
