chickens kick all the nest material from nest box?

I had a neurotic EE hen who tore up all the nests constantly...it's long story...but she finally went to the pot long with another 'problem' bird.

I put sand in the bottom of mine, with shavings on top. My pullets were absolutely destroying their nests before then.

Try slanting the planter's lip up more when you reset them. :-}

I'm going to have sand in the new coop so I can put a layer of that down. and the new boxes I am building (converting a old hutch) will have more lip and a bit of slant as well as the suggestion sounds good. and they will be a smidge smaller too since it is all bantams or will be I may have a couple bigger ones but I'll make somthing to suit them when I get them.
