We have 9 chickens and 4 ducks. They all share the same space but the chickens have a coop with nesting boxes. The ducks have a separate smaller covered area. They started laying eggs a few weeks ago. Lately I've been finding chickens laying eggs with the duck eggs. I remove the chicken eggs each day but they continue to do so. They are also laying in the nesting boxes. How do I get them to stop laying with the duck eggs?

Keeping the ducks separated from the chickens is the only thing that will work. Does it matter that your duck eggs are with the chicken eggs?

You seperate the birds...

All fowl will develop a preferred location, but if one preferred location is distributed to much they will find a new spot. However this wont help getting them to lay separately in your case. They also prefer safe places, send at least for chickens a place that already had an egg seems safer then a place that doesn't so in thirds case fake eggs may help.

But my question is why does this bother you? Aside from one or the other going broody the eggs should be at least somewhat identifiable abed therefore you can sort as you collect. If someone does go broody you will either have to break her or if you plan to hatch you will still have to check under them for extra eggs regardless of who lays where unless you plan to have a broody area. If you don't want the eggs mixed then they will need to have seperate runs otherwise you will always have an occasional egg in the wrong nest.
