Chickens laying

Hello I have 7 hens now.... Two of them I just got 3 days ago. I've only gotten one egg in the past 2 days. I was told that 2 of my hens are most likely laying by now and the 2 new ones was laying when I picked them up. The 5 of mine are about the same age but different breeds. I have a NH, BUFF, EE, and 2 black Australorp. I just got two silkies three days ago. What could cause them to not lay and why is it taking a long time for my others to lay?

Well first, chickens will take a bit to start laying again after being transported to a new place, they won't lay until they feel comfortable and secure with their New surrounding.
Secondly, your other chickens may or may not be ready to lay yet, and if they are, bringing in new flock members may set that back a bit from stress.

The new layers need time to adjust to their new home and to settle in. Chickens stress out over change and a move to a new home is a major one.

The disruption of being moved to a new environment almost always causes hens to stop laying for a period of time. Any eggs laid in the first day or two are eggs that were 'in production' when the hens were purchased. Don't expect many eggs from your silkies. They are yard ornaments not production birds. Generally they will lay a clutch of eggs, go broody, and repeat --------------
