hello,
my hen had her leg pinched in the door to the coop. she seemed to be limping around a bit, but then it became hard to tell. she is 18 weeks old and very healthy. she is walking around, but she doesn't go far, and sometimes she just stands with the pinched leg slightly off the ground. she is eating and drinking, but i am still worried. it looked harsh. however, there is no blood or bruising yet that I can see. she's not crying like i thought she would be if it was really bad.
i am new to chickens and extremely worried!
sorry i can't put up pictures, couldn't get them and the leg looks normal. (i would be most worried that was bruised, but i can't really tell because she has black legs (barred rock with dark black legs).
do you know how badly she could have been hurt? how should i help her?
thanks

If it just happened today I would think that it still hurts from struggling. Double check if there are any cuts and if there are, spray them with some vetricyn. She should be alright!

no cuts that i can see. should she be fine tomorrow? or is it going to take more time?
P.S. love your profile picture, looks just like the chicken i am talking about.

Honestly, I would bring her straight to see the vet to get radiographs taken of her leg to see if it is broken. Here is a link to the most comprehensive directory of vets who treat chickens - http://www.poultrydvm.com/poultry-vets.php

I just lost my favorite little rooster because I did not bring him to the vet until after a couple of days, because I suspected it was something else, and by the time I did bring him, the infection had already spread and he ended up just getting worse and worse....I could have saved him if I just brought him there earlier and insisted on the radiographs.
