Chickens losing weight, concave breasts!

Forgot to say that I use Eprinex PourOn when I feel the need to worm, also called Ivomec, but on cattle, there is no withdrawal for milk or meat, so that to me would mean with Eprinex, there is no or a short withdrawal required. Just a 1/2 cc (or 1/4 for bantams)on the back of their necks and repeat in 2 weeks.

Thanks speckled hen I will try the topical drops next time. It sounds much easier.

Edited over and over, because I am a rotten speller, and worse typist.

Will topical drops work for tapeworms?

I am having a dickens of a time helping my blue Orpington hen. I gave her some Piperazine last week, but her stools are still watery and she is thinner than she was last summer. I see little cous cous things in some of the poops, too. That's tapeworm right?

Right now she seems to be eating mostly grass and bugs and not as much of her "regular" food (layer mash). I switched over from pellets because I thought maybe she didn't like the pellets.

Her eyes are bright, she is active, but she's definitely thinner. I do worry about her. She and the other hen are our very beloved pets.

If they have roundworms, Wazine should get the worms. If tapeworm or other types, you may have to get a different wormer. That is, if that's what the issue is. To be sure, you could use Safeguard, but there is a long withdrawal on that, if I'm not mistaken. I think Eprinex gets most any type of worm.

Whelp..if it doesn't work..guess I'm BACK to the drawing board...LOL or...I MIGHT chase you around the lawn telling you to give me another idea!

This just HAS to work. They seem PERFECTLY healthy otherwise. The only other thing I can think of would be gape worm...but that's a stretch since I only have one or two (in quarantine) who even stretch their necks out as if gasping. One had corn stuck in her mouth (MORON....don't eat so fast!!!) and the other had an URI. But, if it's tapeworms, then I'll ask the vet about it...but...he don't know much about birds anyway.

I guess I could always ask my professors...or necropsy the next bird that drops dead (hasn't happened in MONTHS!)

And Eprinex is safe for chickens?

If so, great! - this topical stuff sounds a LOT easier than trying to measure out those tiny doses of Flubenvet for mixing with their feed.

I am about to follow up my girls' previous worming last month with Flubenvet (at the recommended three week interval), and this would be a godsend to use instead.

Yes, Eprinex is safe for chickens, though it is a cattle wormer. The only approved chicken wormer ONLY gets roundworms. There are several types of worms, though. It kills most of the worms chickens get, though not sure about tapeworms. It's expensive, but so easy to apply.
