Chickens Meet Spaghetti Squash. Or how to keep your chickens busy

Your pics are great, and I was also happy to see some dry ground. It is snowing here again today

waiting for spring is sooo hard

Hi M,
I just took the dogs out and fed the horse. It looks horrible up NW over the mountains. I saw where it was like 13 below lastnight in Craig. I thought of you. Stay warm.

It's looking nasty here too, but I have to say, with snow being our winter income, I'd like it to get on the ball. One good day will make a good month for us.

Hey guys

We are staying warm, I just have a bad case of cabin/spring fever rolleyes:

DH worked on plans for coop and my greenhouse, but can't build anything yet

too cold, too much snow on ground.

the squash is a great idea!
there's this whole movement in parrot culture right now about "foraging" being very very good for birds.
the idea is that most wild birds spend the bulk of their time searching for food but in captivity we put the food right in front of their little pointy faces so most birds spend the bulk of their day bored!
foraging toys and projects give birds something to "do" that excites and intrests them and, therefore, enriches their birdie lives.
a spaghetti squash seems like it would be an excellent foraging toy! it's fun and nutritious too!

They have been at it all day long. It didn't take them long to get to the yummy center, but pretty soon, they will be able to climb into them. They've done a great job hollowing it out through those holes. I figure they've got at least another day on them. Good thing I have a crawl space full of spaghetti squash from the garden.

Ok, this is probably a dumb question, but, is the spaghetti squash cooked? I give mine the leftover bits after I cook the thing , but can you really just put a raw one out?
