Hello everyone. I am looking into raising a small flock on my acre of land. My husband isn't as on board as I am yet though lol.

I think I have settled on a breed (black astrolorp )

So if you see me on here with a hundred questions please forgive me lol.

Thanks:D

So glad you could join our community!

Maybe your hubby needs to see some of these cute, adorable chicks to fall in love with them. LOL Chickens can be very affectionate, intelligent, the hens are quiet, and if you keep things clean, no one will ever know you keep them!

The Black Australorp is one of THE best breeds to keep as far as I am concerned! They were all I kept when I got started with chickens. My girls will be 4 years old in a couple months. They are still going strong on the laying, they are SO affectionate and just beg to sit on my lap! They are docile, great around kids and will follow you around like drooling puppies!! Another excellent breed are Buff Orpingtons. Just the same as Aussies, but Buff in color. Both of these breeds are considered Opringtons.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I'm sure once your husband has seen the chickens he will be on board with you!! There is nothing better than watching your chickens and figuring out their personalities. It soon becomes a must watch! It was my other half who started with the chickens I was scared of birds all birds I might add. As soon as they were home though the novelty wore off with him and I grew more confident with them and now I'm addicted totally love them.

Hope you enjoy BYC be sure to ask questions everyone here to help you along the way. Best of luck to you :frow

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I've raised Black Australorps for years, and they are my favorite, standard breed. They are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children, and now my granddaughter, made lap pets of them), and the best layers of the standard, brown egg laying breeds. Hopefully your husband will get on board. Maybe the great personalities of the Australorps will win him over.) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your Australorps.
