Chickens Not Using Roost?

Hey everyone,
I have been noticing when I shut the chickens in at night, none of them are on the roost like they usually are. It is dark out when I shut them in, usually around 8:30. In the morning, I open their door at around 6:30, when it’s still a little dark out. They still are not on their roost in the morning. One of them, a chantecler, has been laying on their “nest” on the floor in front of the heat lamp (they don’t use the nesting boxes.) However, she was not doing that in the winter, where it gets down to -10. The others are just spread out on the floor. Is something wrong with them? Or am do they just go up late and come down early and I’m not noticing it? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

They are 1 -2 years old, we are running a heat lamp because it gets really cold in the winter. We have some farmer friends who keep their heat lamp going until May to help with egg production. Should we shut ours off? I’ll be able to get pics later.

It gets cold here in Wisconsin but not cold enough to require a heat lamp especially this time of year. I'm a bit South of Wausau. Turn off that extra heat. Your chickens are uncomfortable. It would be similar to you sitting in your house in a snowmobile suit. Extra lights will mess up molts and can cause aggression.

I've had chickens for more than 20 years and never have I used a heat lamp on anything but chicks.
