Chickens okay in cold, rainy weather?

I have 2 silkies. Will they be okay?

If it is barely sprinkling and your silkies' are adults, than I don't think that it will be a problem. However, Silkies' feathers do not repel water well (as theuglychick said) so I would keep them in a covered run if that is an option.

However, I have not owned pure silkies. I have only owned silkie mixes that have really soft feathers and more downy feathers than most chickens.

Hey not sure if anyone is still watching this thread.
Anyway.... We are in the middle of a nor'easter and have gotten 3" so far and it's only 1:30pm. It's 57deg F it 17 Dec 2023. Tonight it will get down to about 45deg F. I'm saying all this because my hens are in the run and mostly wet....looking for bugs of course. The coop is dry and draft free. Should I worry about it getting down to 45 tonight?

Hello and ! I would dry them off with a towel if they get too wet. 45 F is fine for chickens but I don’t think they should be wet during this kind of weather. It’s raining here too with a high of 45 F and I have all mine locked in their coop with snacks and water. Just my opinion, though…hopefully someone with more experience will chime in!
