No offense but that's really one of the worst things you could do to support animal (chicken/turkey, in this case) cruelty. Tyson, KFC, and other meat industries are the worst ones of all. The conditions are horrible and it's just so unimaginably cruel. Look up information about it and you will understand...I've seen the undercover videos and it's just...terrible. That's all I have to say.

Gee, I had a Cornish Rock cross meat hen named Fred that I raised (long story how I got her) and she was always clean with really white feathers and lived just short of 2 years. She was a BIG girl and wasn't the best egg layer but she was the sweetest, friendliest hen you could ever imagine

! She would waddle after me and loved to be picked up and cuddled. Everyone at the barn loved her!

At the moment, ours are pets. They're teeny little chicks and we wouldn't even get a McNugget out of them.

However, everyone in our household is well aware that at some point they are destined for my pressure cooker and will become chicken stock. It's the circle of life!

That's not to say that I won't have one I grow particularly attached to that may get a stay of execution but it won't be the norm.

That's exactly what my mom said ~30 years ago, I guess I'm in a really long phase!

My 7 girls are "pets who lay eggs", go to vet, live outside in a very cozy coop, come in on occasion if sick. But I wouldn't keep chickens if they didn't lay eggs, I'd probably get a parrot or something for my 'bird fix'. The older hens will retire in style.

But, I do respect those who raise and slaughter or hunt their own animals for meat. Compared to factory farming and slaughterhouses it causes so much less suffering.

My chickens are pets ONLY! I never plan on eating them EVER, I don't look down on those who do eat their chickens that is normal to me. I grew up with a very old classed family who raised chickens for food only and only viewed them as being food.

I myself never have!

I treat my chickens like I would my dogs or cats. They are PETS I don't view them as a HUMAN as some may. I view them as pets I enjoy them and they enjoy me?LOL However My kids did like eating the eggs from my chickens but when I began to hatch chicks from these eggs they wouldn't touch them anymore..LOL
