Mine was taped to the floor with a wide piece of black stick on anything type tape.

Hot wire taped to the floor?

That dog is big enough to handle a dog door too heavy for chickens to operate.

You could also consider something that operates on the same principle as a cattle grid.
It may not be possible with your veranda.

Yes, but for me it's just a tingle. Obviously it depends on how much current you put through it.

It’s alright guys, I gave in. I started building a fence today and I’ll have to work out how to put a doggy door in it lol
