We are new to the chicken business! We have 6 amber links hens and 2 batam (1 female and 1 hen) we have had them about a week and 4 have been laying each day. Today we only got 2 eggs! We just recently started allowing them to free range during the day and in the coop at night. The first few days of free range the girls went back in the coop to the nest boxes to lay their eggs. I was excited because I wasn't sure how it was going to work! Then today:( we only got 2 eggs :( Any suggestions on what is happening? Again I'm new to all this and have no clue!

I did look around the yard to see if anyone laid an egg in the yard but did not find anything!

Chickens are not egg machines. They go thru cycles and are influenced by their environment. You will get no eggs when they molt. They slow down when it is too hot, too cold, or too much stress. As long as they are healthy, there is nothing to worry about.

If I'm understanding correctly then those chickens have only been in their new environment for a week? This alone is enough to make them stop laying for around a month. The initial eggs you got were already in the "pipeline" and those wouldn't stop. Expect at around 3-4 weeks for them to acclimate to their new environment and they will start laying again.

Uhmmmmm.....females are hens(after a year old, pullets under a year old.

How old are they?
Keep them locked up in the coop for the first few weeks to establish the habit of laying in the coop nests.
You may have to repeat this occasionally if they start laying out in their range area.
