Chickens, rain and mud!?!

Just wondered how you all cope with the rain and your coops?? Mine is half covered so they can get shelter (big run - cant free range
sad.png
) but the rest of it is just mud mud and more mud, i use wood shavings to try and soak it up a bit but any ideas on anything else??

Well, you can try adding large amounts of sand to help improve the drainage, but that can only do so much. If you have anough land, you can make two runs and alternate them, planting a fast-growing ground cover in the one you aren't using. When all else fails, some boards and low roosts placed around give the birds places to stand so they aren't in the mud.
 
When it got wet this fall I used sand in the run and then covered part of the run with a tarp so not as much rain got in.
