Chickens refuse to eat their layer feed

Hello all,

i have two pet chickens who absolutely refuse to eat their layer feed. They will eat absolutely anything else, I mean they prefer our budgies feed to their own.
This started quite recently and i do not know why they are doing this.
How do i get them to eat their own feed?

Check the feed to see if it smells "off". It may be moldy if it's been really wet where you are, sometimes brand new feed can be moldy too.
Is it the same kind of feed you have been using or a new brand? They don't like change sometimes.

If the feed is spoiled, get new. If they are getting 'candy' they will hold out for the treats and not eat the balanced diet. Mary

If the feed is OK then just wait. When they get hungry enough they will eat.
