Hi Backyard Chicken People,
This is my first post on the site!🙂
My droppings board is about a foot below my roosts. One of my chickens has intermittent lameness and started roosting on the dropping board. She isn’t consistent and will still hop on roosts. But I’ve noticed a few other chickens will occasionally roost on board too which results in poop on feathers! Any suggestions for my dropping board placement? should I raise it?
Thanks so much!
Liz

Hello, Liz, and welcome.
Can you post pictures please?

Oh that would be helpful.

If she can get up to the board, she should be able to get from board to roost.
Are you sure she isn't being picked on and prevented from getting to the roost?
How many birds?
How long is the board?

The board is about 5 1/2 feet long and maybe 3 wide. It is about 10” below the roosts. They have 2 different roost widths to choose from. my black chicken still will get up on the roost as you can see in this pic and she has been doing that more and more lately but I have just seen 2 others with poop on their backs. This is what they’re doing right now. No one is on the dropping board.

Yes I clean mine daily also. They make an impressive mess! Well I’ll just keep an eye on it and have to clean them off or maybe give them a bath which will be a blast!
