Chickens scales are rough.

I have booted bantum show chickens and their mate a red cochin bantum. Their scales either look dry or they have mites. I have never had this happen so I don't know what to about it. I have a good month and a half before showmanship and their feet and feet feathers need to be in top condition. Could I try vaseline. Thanks for any advice.

Vaseline is great for scaly leg mites.

A lot of people recommend using castor oil, rubbed into and under the scales, and say that it can be less messy and can be applied less frequently. A soapy leg soak with gentle use of a toothbrush to loosen scales once a week, followed by rubbing oil into the leg scales is a pretty good regimen.

Be careful with scrubbing too hard and too much..you could cause an infection.
