Chickens spilling water in coop

Looks like your waterer is sitting right on the shavings, that'l make it unstable and prone to spillage. When I used vacuum type waterers, the same thing would happen to me. Sticking them on something solid and high enough so the bottom of the waterer is at chicken head height, solved my problem.

Here is Mine. Not that they spilled it but one of my hens is a KICK-Scratcher! Stuff goes everywhere, usually on top of another hen :)
So there is one cinder block for them to step up on and 2 under the waterer

I'm new to this. I didn't have a good run for my chicks originally and they spent a lot of time in the coop. I have a better run now and they are outside most of the day. I am going to move the waterer outside and which seems like it will solve my problems And get the horizontal nipples soon. Thank you for all the advice.

Are there any heated watering systems that I can use horizontal nipples on? I would prefer to not have to change the water everyday if I don't have to.

I do my water once a week in winter. I use the horizontal nipples, a clear plastic tote that holds about 10 gallons of water, and a stock tank heater that is rated to use in plastic. Have used it for 2 winters and it hasn't frozen yet even when it was -22F. Other people use the same type system but us a 5 gallon bucket. Use whatever will work for you.

Another vote for a horizontal nipple hanging waterer. Ours works beautifully.

It took a fair bit of teaching to get them to learn to use it. But just be persistent. You only need one to figure it out. They others will learn from the first one to figure it out.

Good luck!

I never had any trouble with mine using horizontal nipples. Have used them with 4 different batches of chickens. If i take away all other water sources mine will be using the nipples in 1-2 hours. Don't have to show them how to use They will be curious to peck that red thing.
