Chickens standing out in rain. What to do?

17 Chickens, big run for them. Two spots covered as well as the coops they can get under yet when it rains they are all running around. My silkies look like cats that have been tossed in a tub.

They were hatched in March so they are still learning and being NC it's been pretty warm. But we are starting to get into that time of the year when its freezing at night sometimes and come winter freezing rain and snow.

Will they eventually figure it out? Do I just have really stupid chickens?

Some will just do that. I've got a few that still stand there in the pouring rain. They could care less, they seem like they aren't bothered.

Do they seem to be bothered when it's below freezing outside? Just worried I'll walk out one day and find a silkie-sicle. Not too worried about the barred rocks/other birds whose feathers don't seem to be effected by it.

They don't! I don't understand it. Now my silkies, I will go over there and try to lead them inside their coop if it's too bad. They will of course try to come back out.

I don't have silkies, and that does sound pretty wet. But, here in Washington it rains most of the year. All my chickens ignore it unless it starts coming down really hard. When that happens they take shelter. I made a long outdoor shelter for them mainly so they would have some dry dirt to dust bathe during rainy days.

It rains several times during the day here most days now until next July, with possibility of occasional snow. I would have to move in with my chickens if I decided to go put them in shelter every time it rains.

It rained all day yesterday. When I came home, my chickens were all out running amuck and eating and all, despite being soaked through. I think they know when they need to get out of the rain, and decide not to waste the day. I didn’t stay in the house all day either, so I can’t blame them.

I think I’m are too dumb. I had to rush out there once in a storm. I got them inside right before golf ball size hail starting coming down. It hurt like hell. Like I said 2 are smart, the rest not so much. lol

So strange. My only silkie does this too! My other girls will go inside during bad weather. My silkie also doesn't know how to walk up the coop ramp at night so good thing she's cute
