Chickens starving to death

Quote:
I agree, cocci doesn't always present as runny diarrhea and can slowly damage the intestinal tract and the chickens will starve.

ETA: To my knowlege Nutrena is not medicated. Go get amprolium right away.

Be careful with the Red Cell. Mix it with olive oil or cod liver oil and just spray some on some oatmeal a couple to three times a week. It has way too much iron to give them alot or too often, since it's made for horses, but it's a good supplement.

Go ahead and treat for Coccidia and then wait a week after the treatment is finished to see if they're different before treating for anything else. You don't want to shock the system by treating for too many things too quickly. No more wormings... those chemicals can throw them off too. Twice would be enough.

Are they getting greens/bugs/veggies... anything natural? Look for discount veggies at the grocery store, salad bags, tomatos, ect.

Mine were all skinny when I got them, I put them on Game Bird feed (higher protein than regular chick starter, I use MannaPro) and treated them twice a day to cracked Sunflower seeds and Mealworms. Now they're pudgy, and it's been 3 months.

Nothing you do will be noticed right off the bat, but if what you're trying is working, they'll look better in the eyes, will have more energy. The weight won't come until later.

But they're either sick with something that isn't showing symptoms, or there's something missing in their diet. If you put them on the best diet you can get for them, they'll be in a position to better handle medication or to let their own immune systems work properly.

They shouldn't be starving when they're eating feed, so it's something internal that needs treating. But by feeding things with more substance in it, they can pull more energy from it.

Using electrolytes in the water will perk them up some too, so continue that with all of them.

Hopefully they pull through this!

Also check them over for mites or other parasites.

You can put them on gamebird feed or flock raiser, mine do well on it. But, I'm not quite understanding your comment on keeping them on chick starter due to their size?
