This is night 2 of having our chickens. Last night they were all huddled in and asleep by 830. Tonight they are in their coop walking around eating and drinking. Is this normal?

I just got 2 new ones myself. full grown White Leghorns. My rooster was crowing at midnight and stayed 1/2 the day in the nesting box where the hen layed. I was told from the original owner that this rooster doent know midnight from dawn, and they were right.

When we got our chicks I used a white light bulb for day and the red one at night. So now when the red light is on they quiet down and go to sleep. Just thought it would help them figure out the difference between night and day.

I have a crazy Hen - she's a Wyandotte & will also stay up late so I have to put her to bed.
Up at the crack of dawn waiting for breakfast, wanders round all day eating my daughters flower seeds and playing with a red football (?).
She is by far the best entertainment for the neighbours which is good for me as they don't get offended if the chickens get LOUD!
Maybe you just have an hen that likes to pull an 'all nighter' like mine.

They are 4 weeks this Wednesday. I only have the heat lamp on at night because the temp is still chilly here in the nights. I turn the heat off once it heats up on the mornings.

When I checked on them tonight around 10 once I got home they were all snuggled in and quiet. Maybe they were just being rebellious last night lol
