I dont know how to spell, sorry. Yesterday right after I put my chickens to bed a big black dog got under the fence, into the chicken pen. He killed half of my chickens 15 . All of my laying hens. Now my 3 month olds that I raised from day olds are horrified . They uasualy follow me around when I am outside. They are hudled in the corner of their house and when I went out this morning they ran from me. I wish I could do something to help them feel better, I gues it will take time. I hope that they will be freindly again.
I have a quistion about rabbits also. I lost a litter of 2 day olds. When can I breed the mama bunny again? thanks Lisa

Lisa,
I'm new to chickens myself, so i don't know what to tell you about what to do with your chickens. I hope someone who's more experienced will post here. I'm so sorry this happened to you with the dog killing your chickens. Is it a neighbor's dog? You might want to check what recourse you have--as in, he's attacking your chickens-- I bet you're allowed to shoot the dog.

As for the rabbits, i think you can rebreed the doe 4 weeks after the last litter. Check as backyardherds in the rabbit section.

from Ohio. So sorry about your chicks. You will need to bury the fencing so nothing can crawl under it or at least get a whole bunch of tent stakes and pound them in the ground all over the bottom of the fencing. Hopefully in time they will come around again. About your rabbit. Do you know why the kits died? Was it heat? Mom should be checked out. If she is OK then I believe it is one month. Good luck.

Thanks everyone The bunnys did not die. someone took them out of their nest and put them in an empty cage 2 doors down. I was devastated and do not understand why. i live in a small toen in IA we havw no crime here, I cant understand it. My chickens were better tonight. they came out of the house. thanks lisa

Lisa,
Can you sit out in the pen with the young chickens? I'm thinking, take a lawn chair in and just sit. Don't try to touch them or anything at first--and take the chair out when you leave so it'll stay clean! lol! With the bunnies--do you mean 2 doors down--as in a neighbors place? Will they give the bunnies back--or have the bunnies died?

I'm so srry you're having such trouble--I wish I could help you make your yard more secure!

Praying for you!
