I'd love to hear any stories ya'll got of your flock and how they beat the odds to live!

I recently had a chick who's egg got smashed on Day 20. His navel wasn't sealed, and he was cold and wet. But he survived and was placed back under mama soon after!
Not even a day later I found him lying in the middle of my coop, 2 ft away from mama, cold as stone and lying on his side. I thought the dear thing had broken his neck! I was bawling and ready to put him out of his (and my) misery. But when I brought him inside and warmed him, he perked right up! Gosh, that fella's been giving me a run for my money. I'd love to hear your flock's survival stories!

Here's that little bugger now. Still haven't figured a name for him (or she!)

Quite a tough little character.....Alfalfa from the Little Rascals comes to mind for a name for him, since they both seem to get into scrapes and come out okay at the end! :gig

The story of Scout the Wonder Chicken is too long to retype, but is it okay if I just post a link to his article? He suffered frostbitten feet at just a few days old, and led us on quite a merry adventure. Little stinker actually became pretty well known around BYC!

What a wonderful story! Very informational as well—so glad you shared!

We have a chicken who was attacked by a possum and dragged up a tree but my uncle shot the possum and the chicken survived(it was about 4 months when attacked) and i believe is laying eggs. The chicken was opened up on both sides of the body but we put band-aids and some anitbacterial stuff on and it survived. The tail is never up.
