Chickens that love cat food.

The owner of our local feed store says that dry cat food is one way to up their protein. He was going to give me a sample bag of the brand most people with chickens buy, but he was out of the sample bags at the moment. Should have them the next time I go. I am really curious to try this.

our chickens will sit there and eat our dog food until it is gone. we have one of those ones that you put a bunch of food in and as they eat it, it refils. we had to move it in the house because the chickens would have it gone before the dogs would get a bite.

Nutrena is vegetarian. It used to be all my feed store used to carry. I had horrible problems with feather eating, pecking, etc

....tried the cat food thing, but didn't like how it affected the flavor of the eggs (Iams cat food). I finally found another feed store that offers a 20% layer supplement that contains animal protein. I mix this with my 16% layer feed. Problem solved - whew!
I believe that feeding catfood can cause a build up of Methionine....not-so-good for the ladies. Use sparingly.

The Nutrena is vegetarian. I bought a bag of Kent feed and mixed it in.

The cat food is dry cat food. They are still chasing the cats away to eat it.

There are plenty of bugs in the yard for them to eat and they do. I guess they just like the cat food.
