chickens that quack.....

Our girls sound like they have head colds.  They all sound kind of quacky.  Then we have one that makes a "beep" noise and our Black Australorp sounds like she's saying, "Help" in a monotone robot voice.  It's very entertaining when they get excited. 

 

YES!!! HEAD COLDS!!! One of my Plymouth Rocks is kinda nasty, always trying to let you know SHE is boss. I was sitting on a 5 gal. bucket in the run, petting my Buff, Agnes, the one who quacks, when this other one jumps into my lap and, well, woofed. Like a dog. They just crack me up. Nice to know I am not alone. Thanks for responding!

Some of my chickens sound more like ducks than chickens, and then I have 2 that like to bark like a dog.  It's the weirdest sounding back yard ever.  LOL!

I know exactly what you mean. I have a quacker, a woofer, 2 mumblers and a....I'm not quite sure! Kinda sounds like an old man grumbling... Thanks for letting me know about your gang! Love the picture too!

Our barred rock hen sounds like a duck too!! She is our only one that sounds like that out of our other 8 hens!

Do all the others sound normal?? Must be nice! I thought how cool it would be if we got BYC's, not only for the eggs and entertainment, but the clucking sound. Little did I know........................

Hi, 2 days ago my 10 week old Welsummer started honking at me...she really said honk, she does it 3 or 4 times in a row

How funny is that!!! You have yourself a goose! I can't believe how much fun these silly birds are. Glad someone else has an unusual sound too! I am not alone.:

i have a hen that honks/quacks all the time, and i have a new roo that sounds like a aggressive dog barking fast lol... even made my dog cock his head like "whad u say to me bird?" if hes not "crowing" he will make a single loud "Bark!" scares the crap outta me im not used to it yet lol he should make a good free range watch bird lol

How lucky!! You are being protected by a Watch Bird! I love it. We can't have a roo here, so when the girls come out with that deep tone, it just cracks me up. I was worried a few weeks back thinking 1 or 2 might be a roo. Since we are really new to all this, I got some feed back from others on this site after sending a few pic of the girls. All said......... she, not he! Just the thought of maybe having to get rid of one was a bummer.

I know what you mean about getting the crap scared out of you. I was in the run, all 5 girls were out standing around me while I sat on a bucket. All of a sudden, 1 buff jumped into my lap, then another on the other leg. I was so excited. Then the other buff sat on my feet! So I'm sitting there like a tree with birds all over, and the nasty Plymouth Rock, Nugget, flew up and landed on my shoulder. She kept looking right in my eyes.......kinda thought she was gonna peck em out like on Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. While all of this is going on, the other Rock, Pattie, is strutting around doing this grumbling sound while walking very stiff like a robot. And, of course, no one was around to see this! My meat chickens were all out and about and finally I turned to them and said "are you chickens or ducks?" quit quacking. It was really annoying.

Maybe they know they are MEAT Birds!!!!!!! LOL If they quack they might not get butchered!!!!!!
