chickens+tomatoes=?

Oooops, I just threw a bunch of cherry tomatoes in last week, about half of them with the leafy bits still on. Nobody died though, so seems to be okay here.

I've heard the actual plant itself is poisonous, don't know myself. I do know my hens have eaten pounds and pounds of tomatos scraps--enough we joked about having salsa-flavored eggs!--with no ill effects. The occasional leaf or green cap that goes in there is just ignored by my girls.

"raising chickens for dumies" says the green leafs of the plant are poisonous but they wont eat them unless they are very hungry. Tastes bad i guess

my chickens loved my tomato plants last year and ate the darn leaves off many a plant and with no ill effects. seriously they were constantly on my porch getting to them, this year I have them blocked by gates lol. but every day I throw them tomatoes to eat. they love them!

I feed our chickens tomatoes, but not the green part, our chickens destroyed our tomato plants this yr. I read not to give them green tomatoes though.
