Chickens trashing my grass!

Is there a way to stop my five chickens from digging up all the grass? It's leaving black patches all over the grass! help!!

Keep them in a run in one area would be the only way. Otherwise they will just do what chickens do naturally and that is scratch up the grass LOL!

Yup, the only way to stop them is to fence them in. It's shocking how fast even a small number of birds can rip up and eat all the grass in any given area.

I don't want to have to keep them in one little area but look what they've done!

Whew... I've just let my 8 week olds out for the second time and they stay close to the coop. I've been told they will eat and "destroy" gardens, just being their chicken selves. So now I've got a mine to make my run bigger, and loose that romantic feeling of me and my chickens strolling in the gardens.

Put 15 chickens on 1/2 acre of grass and the wife saed they will have plenty of grass for the summer. Made her a little bet that it would be gone in three weeks. It didn't take that long. The world is good, she has to wait on me for six months. My wish is her command.
