Hi I was wondering if chickens hang out under rabbit cages and eat the dropings will that make them sick? Or make the eggs bad to eat? Im asking because I have seen a few sites that show them together but rabbits were in there cages. I know rabbits digest there food different than chickens. Please if someone has the answer please let me know. Thanks Scotty

We keep our extra roosters in the rabbit barn. The roos scratch around under the rabbit cages and clean up the spilled food. They also get peed on when doing this. It's not an ideal set up but it's working until we can make a new run this spring.

I don't have rabbits anymore but I did have them and we put up a fence around their pen to make sure our dogs wouldn't bother them. So, we put the chickens in the same area. Never had a problem with the chickens getting sick and the eggs did not taste any different. The area actually stayed cleaner because the chickens were in there.

we actually have a rabbit in with our chickens in the coop/run... I wouldn't do more than one rabbit. Our rabbit actually gets along quite well with the chickens. she will sit next to them and hop around them and they don't really pay much attention to her.

(we also made an area JUST for her in the run... she can get to it by a short tunnel, the chickens can't!)

We actually have 15 rabbits in cages in 2 different places. We keep leaves, wood ashes, grass clippings, etc. piled under their cages. When we turn out the chickens they head straight for the 2 sets of cages and scratch through all that stuff. Gary comes back through and rakes it all back up again, then the chickens throw it all out again. They make the absolute best compost you could have. They don't get sick, eggs are great tasting, too. Last summer I purchased 3 pullets that weren't large enough to go with the big gals. They stayed in one of the pens under the rabbit cages for about 5 weeks until they could fend for themselves.

We don't have rabbits, but our chickens like to get into the soiled bedding in our goat pens and stalls and scratch through it and eat it. I've seen them eating poop too...doesn't seem to bother them any. I bet they are picking out any bits of undigested grain they find in there. Yuck.

Rabbit poo also make the perfect fertilizer! When I had bunnies I was getting 4-5 pound spuds without having to compost the poo. Just broadcast it on the garden!

i have two rabbits running with our chickens all the time... they seem to get along together... eggs are tasty and the rabbits are happy.
