*graphic photo* Hello, today I noticed that my hens vent is coming out, I searched it up on google and it said to push it back in but I don’t really want to do that because I don’t want it to hurt her and I don’t know if that is the right thing to do. My other hen had the same thing a few days ago but it wasn’t as bad and it is ok now. They haven’t layed eggs yet so is that the reason why it is happening? They are old English game bantams. What do I need to do because she isn’t really walking around and looks like she is out of breath.

You do need to coat the red tissue with honey, sugar and a few drops of water mixed in a syrup, or a mild oil, such as vegetable or petroleum jelly. Then try to push it back inside and hold it there for a few minutes. It may still come back out. Most animals and fowl can suffer prolapses, and they are a medical emergency. Chickens have those because of straining to lay and egg, constipation, being overweight, or having low calcium levels. Try giving a little calcium (1/2 tablet of calcium or Tums.) Are your chickens getting layer feed or crushed oyster shell in a separate container than feed? It can take a few days for the prolapse to stay in, so keep trying to push it back inside. If she has an egg stuck, give the calcium, and try soaking her in warm water to help pass the egg.

Thankyou, I’m at home right now because my chickens are at a different place but I will do that tommorow in the morning, if she is ok, sorry if that is too long to wait) (it is very late for me now). They do have crushed oyster shells and layers feed.
