I am looking at getting some free range birds. I have no free range expirience what so ever. So, what are the advantages of having turkeys? chickens? Any opinions? Also breeds, # of birds or other general advice would be appreciated. I have about 1.5-2 acres they could roam on. I also have a fox, cyotes and wild dogs around my house, so that's something to consider. Thank you in advace!!

you have enough land to raise about 15 chickens or 4-7 turkeys. Here are my experiences raising both:

Chickens:
There nice(usually)
loud
lay eggs
smaller
eat les
you could raise more
frienlier twords each other
less prone to desies
smaller if you were to eat them
have some brains

Turkeys:
mean
stubborn
dirty
tastey

cannabalistic(mine plucked out eachothers and their own feathers and ate them!!!!

to be honest, there the dumbest animals ive ever raised
they can swim
they dont lay eggs you'ed want to eat
ones there to a certain age you should probably slaughter them because thell get so fat its actually kind of sad.
But again the tast AMAZING when there raised at home
there kinda fun too! i liked to chase mine around, then theyed chase me

if you have big game preds(coyotes) thell be safer than chickens

its up to you they both have advantages and disadvantages. but it really depends on wether you want tem for meat or egg purposes, or just to have around. choose one to fit your needs. good luck
