Chickens water freezing

I built one of those cookie tin heaters for my coop. I don't think it cost me $3. Cookie tin from the basement, coupla bucks for a light fixture and plug. A few pop rivets, an extension cord and a 40W bulb, and I was in business. Jack

No sense spending money on something you have no real extended need for.

Exactly; and furthermore, no sense risking BURNING DOWN THE COOP with something you didn't really need.

I can certainly see using something heated if you get long cold winters, I run a few heated waterers/bases myself and my chicken bldg doesn't even get that cold; but I think it is a big mistake to set up a heatlamp, or even something less unsafe, when it is just for a few days and can so easily be taken care of by just bringing them water a few times a day.

yeah i am in oklahoma right now and it is like 10 degrees here, but i lucked out and at our local swap meet i got a double galvanized water heater base for 8$ i was so happy, i just got a metal pan and put it the heated base, the hens are lovin it i do to i got it for a steal
