A few of my chickens have a cold, I have 2 antibiotics here, which would you suggest I use, how long and how much per gallon of water. Duramycin or Oxytetracycline?
Thank you for your help!

I have had my flock on oxytetracyclynfor a week. I had 3 young birds (6 to 8 wks) and as soon as one died twomore got sick. Within 4 days 2 more littles died. Since then 3 of my hens (1 yr olds) have started coughing and one has actually seperated herself from the flock.. I do not think that the medicated water helped at all. I have contacted my breeder religiously as this has been going on. Originally he suggested I purchase Tylan 50 ( intermuscular injection) for cattle and swine. In small doses you can give it to your flock. The littles get .25cc in the breast and the large hens get .75ccin the breast. My conclusion is that I should have done this from the beginning. Good luck and keep me updated. Northern California? Where?

Thank you for the information and speedy reply. Tonight will be 48 hours that the girls have been on Duramycin-10, my breeder suggested this for 7 days, hopefully it will work or I will look into what you suggested. We live in Virginia and it has been a very wet spring, breeder said due to all the wetness, this has caused the cold. I just pray it works, girls are not acting sick, eating well and they are active as usual. The only young ones are 2 of them are 12months old, everyone else are 2 to 7 years. She also suggested Ampromed (I think I spelled that right) which I can not find anywhere, will check internet. Hope you get good results with the new treatment, it's heartbreaking to see them pass. Keep me posted, please.
