Chickens with half a puffy face?!

My girls are happy and healthy! Lay eggs daily. However I last Monday noticed one of my barnyard mutt hens left side of her face was swollen. No discharge no heat no discomfort when touched. I let them out to free range and that evening when I brought her in swelling was almost gone. Tuesday morning all swelling gone. Today I went to give my girls the once over and one of my Easter eggers hens had the same thing. No pain, no heat but swelling. And it's only one side! What in the world could This be? I did just worm them on Saturday. But the first hen was swollen last week. I tried to get pictures but she wouldn't stay still enough for me to take a chicken selfie by myself. Haha

Could the bird possibly stuck her head through the fence or something, and pulled it back out in a panic? I had that happened, and my two chickens were as you described, and one had a small scab.

I don't think so, we have 1/2" plastic mesh on the bottom 4 feet

But didn't you let them out to free range? It doesn't have to be a fence, just anything they could get their head partially stuck in.

I noticed it before I turned them out. I was hoping getting out and moving would bring down the swelling, as it did.

Could be a mild respiratory infection, swollen sinuses, and she/they fought it off.
Could be a bug bite too.
Just keep a close eye on overall health/activity.

Swelling is gone

No others have shown any swelling !
