Hubby of 35 years thought I had lost my mind when I announced I wanted a couple of chickens (our city now allows up to 4 hens). He rattled off all the potential problems, including our own 3 dogs, & announced he wanted no part of it.
Fast forward 6 weeks. I had to take my elderly mother to a dr appointment out of town. I knew Mildred & Louise would only get an hour at most of foraging time that day but it couldn't be helped. Without me saying anything about it, my husband got the girls into the moveable playpen for some good foraging while I was gone & sent me a picture. These two young ladies won him over. Good job girls!

Behold the power of sweet little chickens!
My husband was was totally against chickens when our son brought home 6 chicks in the spring. He decided if we “had to” keep them we would do it right and he built them a palace. Fast forward 7 months and guess who’s out there with treats every afternoon!
Congratulations on your girls winning over your hubby!

My DH was okay with getting chickens, and researched coop designs himself. He was really supportive, but thought they should be named Coq Au Vin, Drumstick, Fried Chicken, etc. He is not retired yet, so the chickens are up to me to care for. However, when he is home he is quick to say he'll go out and take care of them for me. LOL They have their ways, don't they? In fact, he thinks all the animals and birds around here just pine away until he returns home to care for them. I'm okay with that. :lau

Love it! We know their soft spots, don't we? Even if they didn't want the chickens, their desire to care for & protect all our pets wins over. My husband is amazed how friendly the girls are, he thought they would run from his hand but they ran to it. Thanks for sharing your chickens won him over story

My husband also thought I'd gone around the bend. But he's a good sport so he built me a coop. Now he's as besotted as I am. He tells everyone at the office about everything that happens in the backyard. His boss has also become a chicken owner and everyone cheers us on with our successes and challenges and mourns with us when we have our occasional tragedies. It's really become a community project for all of us highly urban farmers and onlookers.

We're looking at retirement in a few years and we hope to move out to a little more space and a freakin' miniature cow! Can't wait!
